Horse health

How can your horse lose health ?

- Having to much or too less weight, getting colicks

- Going to bed after 22.00

- Going to bed with less than 20% energy

- Going to bed without being groomed.

- Sleeping in the meadow, when temperature is less than 10°, without having a blanket

- Being not immortal and aged over 25

- Eating a toxic plant in the meadow

- getting flu or worms (if not vaccinated)

old horses losing health

- being older than 25

- health loss around 2% every night, and 1% during the day.

* You have to try to lose less health !
The only things that should be done (not in this order but it doesn’t matter):
Put to box (30 mn each time)
Feed forage with feeding box (1 pound each time)
Lessons (but sometimes 1% health loss... not allways)
Groom
Stroke
Water (Drink)
Put to bed

And you *can* give a carrot, turnip, salt stone and apple with no ill effects

I can add that if you do only short actions, health will not drop (like box not more than 30 minutes each time) and if you put your horse to bed the latest at most 21.30, health will drop only 1% during the night.

horse eating a toxic plant and losing health

- the loss of health depends on the toxic plant that the horse has ingested

- loss of health has a limited duration, then, if you give the horse an Anti-poisoning capsule, health raises after a few hours.

How to raise health

look at the horse history, to see if there is a message telling why he's losing health

- if it's overweight, you won't feed him, or put him in pasture

- if it's not enough weight, you will feed him to the maximum in the morning (20p forage + 110oz cereals), and then put him in the pasture during the day (I usually put him in the pasture for 8 hours)

During the day :
* put your horse several hours in the box : +1% health for 2 hours
* put your horse several hours in the pasture : +1% health for 2 hours
* do lessons : +1% health for one lesson (but not always...)
* give a Health mash : +5 % health (can be given only every 3 days)

Health raises during the night, if you :
* put your horse to bed not after 22:00
* put your horse to bed in the box, if temperature <10°C (unless he has a blanket)
* groom, feed normally, give a drink to your horse before putting him to bed

Example Old Horse care

With these programs, it can happen that the horse loses 1% health during the day... It's not often, and I didn't find yet why...

For a horse that needs 15 pounds feeding (look in the feeding box to know how many pounds to give him)

4 times Box (30 minutes) / 15 times Feeding (1 pound) / Grooming / Salt Stone / Carrot / Drink /
2 times Feeding (10 ounce cereals only) / Stroke / Apple / 2 times Box (30 minutes)

Go to bed at 21.30 - No health lost during the day - Only 1% health lost during next night.

For a horse that needs 13 pounds feeding (look in the feeding box to know how many pounds to give him)
Shedule without lessons :

4 times Box (30 minutes) / Grooming / Salt Stone / Carrot / Drink / Apple / 13 times Feeding (1 pound) /
2 times Feeding (10 ounce cereals only) / Stroke / 4 times Box (30 minutes)

Go to bed at 21.30 - No health lost during the day - Only 1% health lost during next night.
